Industry's Smallest Overvoltage Protectors with Negative Polarity Protection
Note to Editor:
The MAX4970/MAX4971/MAX4972 are overvoltage protectors (OVPs) that integrate an ultra-low, 40mΩ (typ) on-resistance FET in a tiny, 2mm x 1.5mm package.
These OVPs protect low-voltage systems against voltage faults up to 28V, while their very-low RON minimizes voltage dropout.
Customers can select from three popular overvoltage thresholds: 4.65V, 5.8V, and 6.35V.
The MAX4970/MAX4971/MAX4972 are ideal for media players, cell phones, PDAs, digital cameras, and other portable applications requiring accurate overvoltage protection.
SUNNYVALE, CA—August 25, 2008—Maxim Integrated Products (PINK OTC MARKETS: MXIM) introduces the MAX4970/MAX4971/MAX4972, a family of tiny, 2mm x 1.5mm overvoltage protectors (OVPs) that protect low-voltage systems against faults up to 28V. To minimize voltage dropout, these OVPs integrate the ultra-low, 40mΩ (typ) internal on-resistance FET. Small size and the industry's lowest on-resistance make the MAX4970/MAX4971/MAX4972 ideal for media players, cell phones, PDAs, digital cameras, and other portable applications that require accurate overvoltage protection.
For enhanced protection, these devices can drive an optional, external pFET to protect against reverse-polarity voltages. Additionally, bypassing IN with a 1µF capacitor to ground provides input protection up to ±15kV ESD (Human Body Model).
The overvoltage thresholds are preset to 4.65V (MAX4972), 5.8V (MAX4970), or 6.35V (MAX4971). Each OVP is packaged in a small, 12-ball WLP that operates over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range.
